Excursion destinations

"If you go on a journey, you’re sure to have a story to tell..."

On a holiday in the mountains there are so many natural delights to enjoy - the landscape, the green valleys, the gorges and ravines, the high mountains and the dark blue lakes. You will also probably want to see and experience man-made sights, however.

Thanks to its location in the middle of the picturesque Tyrolean mountains, Erpfendorf in Tyrol is the ideal base for excursions. Whether you want to go back to the Middle Ages, visit world-famous cities or interesting cultural excursion destinations, sights and events - you can experience all of this easily on a holiday at the Berghof holiday hotel in Erpfendorf!

Feel free to ask for ideas at our reception - we will be happy to assist you with suggestions.

Below are a few examples:

Rattenberg in Tirol Medieval town | 49 km

With almost 400 inhabitants over close to 10 hectares, Rattenberg is the smallest town in Austria. The medieval pedestrian zone is dominated by the unique craft of the numerous glassmaking companies, which is well worth watching.

The Augustinian monastery is home to one of the leading museums in Tyrol. With the annual Schlossberg games taking place in Rattenberg and the authentic Rattenberg Advent, the town on the river Inn is rightly regarded as the cultural centre of the region.

Jakobskreuz | 17 km

The Jakobskreuz on the summit of the Buchensteinwand in the Pillersee Valley is a highlight of the Kitzbühel Alps. The largest walk-in summit cross in the world with a height of around 30 metres provides a unique view of the surrounding region and mountains. The peaks of the Lofer and Leogang Mountains as well as numerous other mountains such as the Wildseeloder, the Spielberg or the Kitzbüheler Horn are there for you to marvel at.

Haflinger Stud Farm Ebbs | 34 km

The Haflinger is a real Tyrolean icon. Originating from Hafling in South Tyrol, this breed of horse has conquered the whole world.

As an interesting (and for children unforgettable) trip into the world of Tyrolean horses, you cannot miss this attraction. In addition to horse riding, there is also a museum and many events here. The breeding and sale of Haflingers are of course the main business and the breeding and marketing successes are highlighted accordingly here.

Erl Festival and Passion Play | 38 km

Erl Festival: The sounds of the Tyrolean Festival in Erl can now be heard far beyond Tyrol’s borders. For more than 20 years, far from the big cities in the midst of one of the most beautiful natural landscapes, a fertile ground for culture of the highest level has been developing here. Renowned artists from all over the world perform with great passion in front of the breathtaking backdrop of the Kaiser Mountains, while unknown pieces of classical music and musical theatre can be heard.

Erl Passion Play: The Passion Play has been performed at regular intervals in Erl for more than 400 years. Every six years (the next will be in 2025), actors recreate the life and death of Jesus Christ here. The experience attracts thousands of visitors.

Swarovski Crystal Worlds Wattens | 80 km

The Crystal Worlds were opened in 1995 on the occasion of Swarovski's centenary. The multimedia artist André Heller designed a unique place of fantasy. To date, this popular attraction has amazed more than 15 million visitors from around the world.

Families & children

The Swarovski Crystal Worlds are an ideal destination for the whole family all year round, whatever the weather. In addition to the play tower and playground in the south of the garden, the weekly workshops and family days are particularly fun and eventful.
